I reallllly procrastinated this evening’s sessio

I reallllly procrastinated this evening’s session. I sat in the changing room debating whether to go home or halve my session for about 40 minutes. BUT after eating my pre-workout oats, I had no option but to suck it up and get moving 😂 gals got goals.

And like they say - sometimes the sessions you least want to do, turn out to be the best.

I upped my recent volume / reps PB.

Squats felt brutal but I hit…
110kg for 8!! 🥳 I’ve been trying to get it for a few weeks now. 100kg feels comfortable, but even that 10kg just destroys me after a few reps. So sets went…

110kg for 8
100kg for 10
90kg for 4… then 80kg for 8.

This was also ZZ’d with 32.5kg goblet squats for the same reps. I could’ve been sick. But, the good kind.

I’m glad I got my bum under a rack. Stronger than ever, more calories than ever, lowest body weight / highest muscle ratio ever. @ollirose_trb I haven’t answered your Wednesday check in yet, but does this give an indication 😉😂

I think I realised in training today that the reas

I think I realised in training today that the reason I never wanted to keep a training diary or log book of my lifts was because I was scared of not progressing. (That and my sessions were all over the shop). My fear of being unsuccessful outweighed my desire for progression which seems ridiculous to say out loud. But it’s the same reason I’d never worked with a coach before. I was so fearful of not succeeding that I didn’t even want to try.

It’s a mindset I’ve really had to work on. Not only for the obvious, but also because I’ve noticed that being a perfectionist (and huge self critic), I can be an all or nothing person.

I’ve done it with training, definitely with my history of eating disorders and with work (🙋🏼‍♀️ extreme workaholic then complete breakdown there’s no in between). Keeping track of where I’m at isn’t to punish myself if I’m not succeeding - it’s to note and figure out why I might not be. Refocus myself, take note of mental health, my period, my nutrition. It’s critical for so many things other than just the numbers. I’m also learning to stop fixating on things (that goes for the scales too!).

I’ve had a few dodgy weeks for leg day. I felt really tired one week and then managed to injure my knee at work afterwards. The numbers were slightly down, and with a kcal increase I was worrying I wasn’t performing well enough. But this week I matched the Pb before that.

110kg for 7 on squats. Without my book I wouldn’t have remembered that and I also wouldn’t have as much insight into my training and everything else around it.

I don’t really know where I’m going with this, but basically I’ve learnt so much about the gym, myself and grown mentally in this entire process with @ollirose_trb and have a lot to thank him for. There’s so many takeaways I want to share having done this - and keeping track of your lifts (the good, the bad, the ugly) is one!

It just helps to celebrate the good days and refocus on the things that matter when you’re a little off ♥️

SQUAT PB FOR REPS🥺 (swipe for main set)

@ollirose_trb joked I would be “out of puff” in this new phase and he wasn’t bloody kidding. Thought I might die multiple times today, so if I was quiet and staring at you like I wanted to take you down with me - I sincerely apologise, I was just very much trying to breathe 😂

So my current plan integrates ZZ sets, which I’d actually never heard of before and won’t go into because #notaPT, but they’re pretty brutal.

I was alternating squat sets with goblet squats at 30kg (I would go heavier if I could actually hold the bloody dumbbell without hurting myself).

I hit
110kg x 7 reps (swipe for vid)
100kg x 10 reps
90kg x 12 reps
With goblet squats between sets and then followed up this insanity with the rest of my session. (@213kgdotcom dowins working wonders!!)

Olli shared a post about food being fuel for training and you need to go have a listen. I was guilty of being a constant meal skipper and under fuelling myself and he’s taught me to eat optimally and time everything well to make sure I have enough in the tank. It’s working.

I’ve been battling some old ED / body dysmorphia

I’ve been battling some old ED / body dysmorphia issues head on recently.

I’ve been wondering what my “goals” are in the gym and with my diet. I feel like I should have some. I know it definitely makes it easier to commit and progress. The only issue is, I do this a lot. I become obsessive about striving towards a goal, I commit fully and wholeheartedly - to the detriment of everything else. Then once I’ve hit it, I feel lost and unable to sustain things long term.

My overall goal has always just been to feel happier and healthier in myself, with a strong focus on progressing in the gym. That doesn’t really have a body shape or weight attached - it’s a mental goal. I constantly remind myself that I don’t need some obscene goal - I can just enjoy the process and work on my relationship with my body.

Taking pictures is something that I’m going to try and keep up. It’s helpful to actually see your progress and hard work, especially when your brain is telling you otherwise.

Honestly, I don’t know about you but while I adore lifting I have super intrusive thoughts about injury. Now I’m back into training and my lifts are getting heavier I needed to start investing in good kit again, to make sure I’m being as safe as can be. I completely underestimated lifting shoes. God knows why, but I think the price has always put me off. All the pairs I was recommended were in the £200s and that seemed like quite the commitment when you can’t just walk into a shop and try them all on (I’m not a fan of buying online usually).

The team at @213kgdotcom were kind enough to gift me these, don’t even ask me how or why, but I could have cried. They have genuinely made the world of difference in the gym already. My lifts feel so much more stable and secure and the fact that athletes like @lucyunders_strongwoman, @kate.errington and @hayssimpsonfitness_ wear them is just another plus!

The customer service is second to none. Full disclosure, I approached as a paying customer and was kindly gifted them down the line🥺 You’re asked to measure your feet to get the most accurate sizing and these fit like they were made for me. They’re under £100 and blow other lifting brands out of the water now as far as I’m concerned for quality and price point.

So yeah if you’re looking for lifting shoes, I couldn’t recommend @213kgdotcom more!

Ps. According to a lady on the internet, this is too provocative a shot to advertise gym shoes. I wish I could tell her that for me, getting to a place where you feel comfortable enough to train in shorts and a sports bra AND take a quick picture, to say thank you to the nicest company for gifting you shoes you’ve wanted for ages, is PROGRESS. Not thinking about what you’re wearing and then feeling like you have to justify it, is irritating. Not sure where she’s seeing the abundance of cleavage, but I mean, I’ll take it.
