Meet the Club

I feel it’s so important to get to know everyone in the book club at least a little bit. My mum always said you can tell a person by their shoes, but I like to think it’s books and beverages. So. Here’s your milk and sugar dating profiles x

milk and sugar book club
If you want to get involved, drop me a DM on Instagram or send me a message saying ‘book club’ here.

Age, birthday: 23, 29th December.
Location
: Maidstone, Kent. But forever wishing I was back in beautiful Bath where I studied and lived for three years.
Occupation
: I currently work for a creative agency in PR and Content, however it is much more social media and digital content based than my official title!
Fun fact
: Look, I know I set these questions, but I always hate these. I forget everything fun thing about myself. And there’s not much to forget eh.
Urm how about this. I’m a secret taste tester for quite a well known company but I cannot tell you who!!
Fave book / writing style
: I don’t know why this book has stuck with me, but Pour Me a Life by AA Gill. I just adore the writing style and without knowing anything about him prior to reading it, I was fascinated by his story and life. That, and Normal People by Sally Rooney. She has my heart.
Tea or coffee?
Coffee, always. Black, flat white or skinny mocha. There is no in between. Cool and collected or basic bitch coffee
Milk or sugar?
Sweetener. And only milk if I’m having a flat white or mocha, but always skinny or dairy free alternatives. Bloody love a bit of coconut milk in coffee.

Fun fact
: My marvellous Aunty Lizzie is an author and her best selling book is a book called ‘The Reading Group’ about her beloved book club. Not that interesting but seems fitting for my introduction to the milk and sugar book club!
Fave book / writing style
: The Reader by Bernhard Schlink. I couldn’t recommend this book enough. Simplistic and easy (could be devoured in a day) but so beautiful and painful. God, I love it so much.
Tea or coffee?
Coffee. I’d straight up rather die than drink a cup of tea.
Milk or sugar?
Neither, just black please.

Tea or coffee?
Tea. 100%. I’m from the North after all!
Milk or sugar?
Oat milk & ½ sugar (since living in the south I need the sugar to mask the limescaley water).

Beckie Poole
@beckiepoole

Beckie Poole (with an -ie, NEVER a y. That’s worse than using the full name (Rebecca) and only my ma does that!)
Age, birthday
: I’m 23 years young, which actually makes me 105 in dog years. My birthday is on the 3rd Jan, every year. I forget to celebrate it, every year.
Location
: Currently it’s in beautiful Bath. I moved here over five years ago for uni and due to odd circumstances I didn’t end up going home. My hometown is a seaside town right next to Brighton, so I miss it all oh so much!
Occupation
: I’m an SEO Exec by day and a knitter by night / in my free time. SEO means I’m sort of a Google slave which is a weird way of saying I check sites we have as a publisher do well, are good content you want to click, and I go down rabbit holes on really weird stuff!
I’ve been knitting for 17 years and crocheting for 5 – full self taught and I take on commissions as and when I have time (which right now seems to be a lot!)
Fun fact
: I’m still fuming Hannah made us do these, so I let her pick mine for me… (HR: I wasn’t going to pick, I was going to let you have three delectable facts from Miss Poole but formatting became an issue.)
I’ve moshed with Keira Knightley once in Brighton at a Klaxons gig.
Fave book / writing style
: Another horrible question, because as an English Literature grad I feel compelled to say something deep, or moving, or full of adolescent angst and rebellion! I’m gonna go with Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon. I read it as my sister is Autistic and I thought it might help me better understand her. It really did. She read it and said it was so lovely to be represented. It’s flawless, and beautifully depicts individuality, logic, rationality and dealing with one’s emotions even if you don’t fully understand them.
Tea or coffee?
I drink any hot beverage so now I’m in a real pickle! I worked at BTP for a year so although I feel obliged to say tea, there’s something about an oat flat white that keeps drawing me in…
Milk or sugar?
Oat milk, no sugar. Unless I’m hungover, then it’s a strong bucket of earl grey with a dash of oat and half a spoon of demerara – trust me, it works!

Fave book / writing style
: I love a first person thriller, something to keep me on the edge of my seat! Although a bit of light relief is needed after a few in a row! Adam Kay’s this is going to hurt had me in stitches!
Tea or coffee?
Coffee always!
Milk or sugar?
